Title: Sports Information Director
Reports to: Director of Communications
Status: Full Time, 40 hours a week
Classification: Salary; Exempt
Reporting to the director of communications, and with strategic oversight from the director of athletics, the sports information director manages all aspects of media relations, record keeping, and promotion relating to the Jesuit Dallas athletics program. The SID also serves as a member of the communications and athletic leadership teams.
Summary of Essential Functions
- Prepare media releases and feature stories to communicate news and information to the general public about the Jesuit Dallas athletics program
- Work proactively with external agencies (i.e., Dallas Morning News SportsDay, Max Preps, etc.) to promote coverage and information exchange of athletic events and news, and to coordinate player and coach interviews with media outlets
- Write, edit, and design online and printed athletic collateral to include game day programs, sports-specific fan guides, and promotional materials
- Manage the day-to-day coverage of the School's athletic web presence, including rosters, schedules, bios, releases, and links (www.jesuitrangers.org)
- Develop and execute a content plan for Jesuit's primary athletic account across all social media channels
- Provide event management at varsity athletic contests, to include press box setup, media credentials and seating, PA scripts and announcing, statistics, and photography wihle supervising student, volunteer, and paid staff
- Clear pre-game music for programs that utilize music prior to athletic contests
- Serve as the Jesuit Dallas campus contact with HUDL, working with coaches to schedule, record, and upload film
- Work with coaching staff to facilitate nominations for postseason awards
- Maintain historical archives and record books for all varsity athletic teams
- Coordinate Jesuit Dallas athletic signing day events
- Schedule and supervise team and portrait photography for all athletic teams
- Primary point of contact for fan guide advertising, to include invoicing and the creation of ad artwork
- Serve on Sports Hall of Fame committee and oversee the creative deliverables for that event
- Assist in the development and execution of marketing efforts aimed at boosting visibility and fan engagement
- Cover additional duties as assigned by the director of communications and director of athletics
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, sports management, or related field
- Progressive experience working in athletic communications
- Ability to write and edit in Associated Press (AP) style
- Experience with desktop publishing software (InDesign, Photoshop), SIDEARM Sports content management system, and statistical software (Genius Sports, StatCrew) is highly desired
- Capacity to develop strong visual concepts for social media and a strong knowledge/understanding of various social media platforms and best practices
- Must be highly organized and a detail self-starter with a preference to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable multitasking and a demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of productivity and effectiveness under pressure and tight deadlines
- Capacity to work well with numerous constituents to develop concepts that align with measurable outcomes
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Due ot the demanding nature of supporting a highly engaged school community, the position will be required to maintain a flexible schedule during the school year
- The sports information director will be required to attend events and meetings outside normal work hours, and will be expected to travel and work weekends as a function of their normal job responsibilities
- Works in a stressful environment dealing with a wide range of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts
- May alternatively work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time while also spending a lot of hours walking and/or standing
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
