Description
The Dean of Students Affairs promotes a positive and healthy school campus and serves as the lead to maintain school records for attendance, health, and discipline.  The Dean is the chief liaison to the school administration with regards to campus supervision, student behavior and safety, and daily student affairs issues.

The Dean of Students Affairs reports to the Director of Student Formation.  The Dean is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.

Student Supervision
  • Walks the campus intentionally each period and each day to greet, monitor, and supervise students
  • Collaborates with the administration to develop a behavior management system that will promote positive student behavior in the school
  • Researches matters of discipline and welfare by conferring with students, parents, teachers, and counselors
  • Oversees disciplinary interventions, including daily and Saturday Penance Hall
  • Works for resolution in student discipline issues and follows up with appropriate grade-level counselor and parent contact
  • Ensure disciplinary recommendations conform to school and administrative policy
  • Generates and reviews reports of misconduct cases that require disciplinary action, and prepares documentation for the Director of Student Formation and Principal when necessary
  • Organizes and oversees cafeteria supervision during the lunch and breakfast hours
  • Assists the Assistant Principal of Faculty Formation in the assignment of proctoring assignments
  • Coordinates with the administration in the development, maintenance, and distribution of student-parent handbooks
  • Works with the Educational Technologist to promote appropriate use of technology
Student Activities
  • Works with the Director of Student Formation, grade-level counselors, and the Student Council moderators in the organization of student events, e.g. Ranger Day, homecoming, prom
  • Works with the Director of Student Formation in the organization and supervision of school community time, student personal responsibility time, student programs, and student activities
  • Works with the Director of Student Formation and the Athletic Director to organize and participate in the supervision of extracurricular and athletic programs of the school, especially responsible for oversight of student attendance at larger events
Student Operations
  • Teach equivalent of one academic period in appropriate content area
  • Oversees and serves as Folio supervisor for the Assistant Dean
  • Oversees the Assistant for Attendance and Student Affairs, including the coordination and maintenance of attendance records 
  • Programs daily bell schedules and relays daily announcements on PA and school monitors
  • Communicates with parents and counselors on matters pertaining to student attendance and health
  • Provides attendance data and identifies trends for administrative and counseling review
  • Oversees an effective and compliant student medication collection, storage, and dispensing protocol
  • Respond to medical emergencies, and, in coordination with administration, assist in necessary follow up communication
  • Coordinates oversight of the school's lost and found
Student Safety
  • Coordinates, with the Director of Security, the on-campus student, faculty, and guest parking 
  • Works with the Director of Security and administration to support school security and safety drills
  • Serves on the Crisis Management Team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 5 years experience working in high school environment
  • Current CPR, AED and basic first aid certification
Environment
This is an 11 month full time position that will require evening and weekend work. The Dean of Student Affairs will work outside in varying weather conditions and climate as needed.  The position requires regular movement around campus and desk work for extended periods of time.
